Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Confirms Boost But 6 Players Could Miss Watford Trip
Manchester United have been handed a boost ahead of their trip to Watford but Jose Mourinho could be without six players for the game.
Manchester United will be keen to build on their win over Burnley when they take on high-flying Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening.
Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference today and he’s provided a full team news and injury update ahead of the game.
The United boss confirmed that Luke Shaw is available for selection despite suffering concussion during England’s Nations League defeat to Spain last weekend. Shaw required lengthy treatment on the pitch following the collision and it had been reported that Premier League rules meant the full-back would miss tomorrow’s trip to Watford.
However, while Mourinho insists there is no protocol in place to prevent him selecting Shaw, the Portuguese coach says he will make a late decision over the left-back’s involvement this weekend.
Mourinho also revealed that Ander Herrera could be set to miss the visit to Vicarage Road after suffering an ankle injury in training while Marouane Fellaini is struggling with a back problem that he suffered while away with Belgium during the international break.
Man Utd will continue to be without Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot as the duo will look to build on their match fitness with a run out for the Under-23’s against Reading tonight but Mourinho hopes the pair will be available for first team action next week.
The United boss told ManUtd.com:
“I don’t know. We still have a training session. Contrary to some news and opinions, from the protocol point of view and according to our doctor, he will be free to play. The only situation I have to analyse is if we are going to play him when, during the week, he wasn’t training with the team. Or even if he had been training, if we decide to play him.“Fellaini is a doubt. Ander Herrera is a doubt – he had one little problem in one ankle in training during the week, so he’s a doubt. Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo will play tonight with the Under-23s and, if they play the 90 minutes like we expect, then it will be the end of their recovering process and we will consider them ready to be back next week for full competition.”
Man Utd will also be without Phil Jones as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury while Marcus Rashford is suspended following his dismissal against Burnley last time out so the Red Devils could be without up to six players against Watford.
