Man Utd Identify No.1 Target To Replace Mourinho, Club ‘Desperate’ To Appoint Him
Manchester United are ‘desperate’ to bring in Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as Jose Mourinho’s replacement at the end of the season
Manchester United are ‘desperate’ to bring in Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as Jose Mourinho’s replacement at the end of the season, according to iNews journalist Sam Cunningham.
Mourinho was sacked as United manager on Tuesday morning during a meeting with Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward following a disastrous few months that has seen the club record their worst ever start to a Premier League season.
The Red Devils have struggled for consistency all campaign with a number of disappointing results and club bosses decided to take decisive action following consecutive defeats to Valencia and Liverpool over the past week.
The 3-1 loss at Anfield on Sunday has left United sitting sixth in the table – 11 points off the top four and 19 adrift of leaders Liverpool after just 17 games – so it’s easy to understand why Woodward took action this morning.
Within the next 24 hours, United are expected to name a caretaker manager who will take charge of the team until the end of the season but the club are already working on finding a replacement to take over on a permanent basis next summer.
It seems United bosses have already identified their primary target as iNews journalist Sam Cunningham claims Manchester United are ‘desperate’ to appoint Pochettino as Mourinho’s permanent replacement.
Pochettino only signed a new long-term contract with Spurs last year so it will be difficult to prise him away from the north Londoners but it seems United are going to do all they can to lure the Argentinean coach to Old Trafford.
Pochettino could stay at Tottenham and lead them into a new era in their expensive new stadium but funds will be limited for the foreseeable future and the 46-year-old has already hinted at his frustration after failing to sign a single player last summer.
At United, he’d be backed with huge funds to rebuild their squad and Pochettino arguably has a better chance of competing for major honours at Old Trafford than he does if he was to stay at Tottenham.
Pochettino refused to comment on the speculation linking him with the United job at his press conference today but the rumours are only going to intensify over the coming months.
It’s certainly going to be an interesting to see who Man Utd end up appointing but Pochettino has all the characteristics you’d expect United are looking for and I think he’d be the ideal candidate to replace Mourinho.
