Man Utd team news: Solskjaer confirms huge injury boost ahead of Tottenham trip
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed a major injury boost ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to continue his impressive start as caretaker boss when Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, the caretaker United manager has held his pre-match press conference and he’s provided a team news and injury update including the very latest on the fitness of Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo.
The United squad have just returned from a warm weather training camp in Dubai where they’ve been enjoying the fine weather since last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Reading in the FA Cup.
Pogba missed the third round tie after picking up a knee problem following a horror challenge from Jonjo Shelvey during Man Utd’s victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park earlier this month.
The Frenchman initially stayed in Manchester for treatment while the rest of the squad flew-out to the Middle East but he later joined his team mates on Monday and has been training successfully in recent days.
Solskjaer confirmed that Pogba has come through the last few training sessions and will therefore be fit and available for selection against Tottenham this weekend.
The Man Utd boss also provided an update on Rojo as the defender continues to struggle with an on-going injury that’s hampered him since the 2-1 defeat to Valencia a month ago.
Solskjaer has revealed Rojo has gone back to Argentina to re-group after a frustrating period on the sidelines but the United boss admits he has no idea when the 28-year-old will be available again.
He told ManUtd.com:
“He [Pogba] looked okay towards the end [of the training camp], so he’ll be fit. He did have some problems but he came through the last couple of sessions well, so he should be okay.”
“He’s [Rojo] gone back to Argentina for a while with his injury. How long is a piece of rope? For him, it’s mentally important for him to get away and come back fresh again.”
There was no mention of Alexis Sanchez in Solskjaer’s update but the Chilean attacker is expected to be available against Tottenham despite carrying a tight hamstring this week, however, Chris Smalling is set to miss out once again due to a foot problem.
United head in to the Spurs game off the back of a five-game winning streak under Solskjaer so the Norwegian coach will look to continue his fine start with another positive result in the capital this weekend.
