Man Utd team news: 2 players to miss Wolves trip + update on Sanchez
Here is a team news update from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Man Utd’s trip to Wolves on Monday including an update on Alexis Sanchez.
Manchester United will be looking to build on their impressive win over Chelsea when they take on Wolves at Molineux on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and the Norwegian coach has provided a team news and injury update.
United didn’t suffer any fresh injury concerns following their 4-0 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford last weekend and Solskjaer says they’ve enjoyed a ‘good week’ on the training pitches this week.
The United boss is hoping to have a similar squad to choose from against Wolves unless a player picks up a knock in training over the next few days ahead of Monday’s game.
Summer signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are expected to retain their places in defence after impressing on their competitive debuts last weekend while Daniel James is pushing to start in attack after coming off the bench to score the final goal against Chelsea.
Solskjaer told ManUtd.com:
“We’ve had a good week, good training week, a competitive week so hopefully we can have the same squad and people available, unless something changes towards the end. There are still a few days until we play.”
Alexis Sanchez missed the win over Chelsea on the opening weekend due to a lack of match fitness having returned late to pre-season following his exploits at the Copa America this summer.
However, Solskjaer says the Chilean international is now close to being in contention again after building up his fitness in training over the past couple of weeks.
When asked for an update on Sanchez, Solskjaer told ManUtd.com:
“He’s part of our squad and he’s a very, very good player. He’s just had a couple of weeks [of training], three weeks now, so he’s a few weeks behind the rest, but he’s very close to being part of it [the squad].”
It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will be recalled for the trip to Wolves on Monday night but the United squad is in excellent health so Solskjaer has a strong group of players to choose from.
However, Man Utd will continue to be without Eric Bailly as the centre-back remains on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury that he sustained against Tottenham in pre-season while fellow defender Tim Fosu-Mensah is also still recovering from knee surgery that he underwent earlier this year.
