[Video Goals] Southampton 1-2 Liverpool: Reds hold on despite Adrian howler

Sadio Mane was on target again and Adrian dropped a clanger as Liverpool held on to secure a hard fought 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s this afternoon.
It was a relatively slow start from the European Champions as Southampton were well in the game and Adrian was forced into making a superb point-blank save from a close-range header in the 21st minute.
It looked like we’d go into the break all squad but Mane had other ideas as the Senegalese international curled home a superb effort from the edge of the area to give Liverpool the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Roberto Firmino then doubled the visitors lead with a fine finish from 20 yards to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute and it seemed like Liverpool were coasting to another three points on the south coast.
However, Adrian ensured it would be a nervy finish as the stand-in goalkeeper dropped a howler in the 82nd minute with his attempted pass hitting Danny Ings and the striker poked into the empty net to make it 1-2.
The former Liverpool striker then missed a sitter a few minutes later which would have salvaged a point for Southampton but Liverpool held on to secure a 2-1 victory at St Mary’s.
