Manchester United take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon. Here is the team we think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea started during United’s Europa League stalemate against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night and the Spaniard is expected to keep his place ahead of Sergio Romero this weekend.
Defence: Solskjaer is set to make changes to his defence as Harry Maguire – who was rested against AZ – will be recalled to partner Victor Lindelof with Marcos Rojo making way following his rare run out in Holland.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains a major doubt due to tonsillitis so Ashley Young may come in at right-back with Diogo Dalot making way while Axel Tuanzebe could start at left-back if Luke Shaw is ruled out. Youngster Brandon Williams impressed on his debut on Thursday but I still think he’ll make way.
Midfield: Man Utd will be without Paul Pogba after he aggravated an ankle injury against Arsenal on Monday night. The Frenchman missed the trip to Holland and Solskjaer says he’ll be given time to recover during the international break after not being included in the France squad for their Euro qualifiers.
Scott McTominay will be recalled after being rested against AZ in the Europa League but Nemanja Matic could be the man to keep his place as Fred failed to take his chance to shine last night.
Attack: Manchester United didn’t have a shot on target against AZ so Solskjaer is under pressure to get them playing more attacking football but the problem is he has limited options in the final third.
Anthony Martial is expected to miss out once again due to a thigh injury and Jesse Lingard has been ruled out after picked up a muscle issue during the latter stages of the draw in Holland on Thursday.
Therefore, Mason Greenwood could keep his place in the United attack but he may move out to the wing with Marcus Rashford being recalled up front after not being risked from the start against AZ.
Juan Mata should keep his place while Daniel James is expected to start on the left wing again with the likes of Andreas Pereira, Tihath Chong and Angel Gomes among the substitutes.
Here is how we think United will line-up:
