Manchester United have taken an inexperienced squad with them for their Europa League group stage clash with Astana on Thursday night. Here is the team we think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: David De Gea and Sergio Romero haven’t travelled so Lee Grant has been confirmed as a starter tomorrow night.
Defence: Man Utd will make wholesale changes in defence as Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams and Ashley Young have all been left back in Manchester.
Luke Shaw is set to make his comeback after recovering from a hamstring injury that’s hampered him for most of the season while Axel Tuanzebe will also be recalled after overcoming his own injury problem recently.
Solskjaer has confirmed young duo Ethan Laird and Dishon Bernard will be handed their debuts so they are set to come in to the back four tomorrow night.
Midfield: Manchester United will be without Scott McTominay as he continues to recover from an ankle injury while Paul Pogba is also still on the treatment table working his way back from his own ankle complaint.
Fred, Andreas Pereira and Nemanja Matic haven’t travelled to Kazakhstan so we’ll see a young midfield with James Garner set to be recalled. Solskjaer has also confirmed Dylan Levitt will be handed his first team debut after impressing for the youth side.
Attack: United have protected their big guns in attack with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James all given the night off to rest ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Juan Mata also hasn’t travelled but Jesse Lingard has been included in the squad and the England international is expected to start as he looks to regain some form and fitness following a frustrating campaign so far.
Angel Gomes is set to feature in the advanced midfield role while Tahith Chong should also get another chance to impress in the Man Utd attack against Astana tomorrow night.
Mason Greenwood is certain to start up front and he’ll be looking to build on an encouraging start to the season having scored his 6th goal of the season with a strike against Sheffield United at the weekend.
Youngsters like Teden Mengi, Largie Ramazani, Ethan Galbraith, Arnau Puigmal and D’Mani Bughail-Mellor will be hoping to make their debuts off the bench.
Here is how we think Manchester United will line-up:
