[PLAYER RATINGS] Blackburn 1 Man Utd 1: How The Champions Go On…
Manchester United came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, which was enough to secure the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League title.
Brett Emerton slotted Rovers in front in the 20th minute, however, a controversial, but decision awarded the Reds a penalty, which was expertly executed by Wayne Rooney that gave them a share of the spoils.
Rooney got the all-important goal that gave the Reds the title, but did he do enough to earn Man of the Match honors?
Tomasz Kuszczak – 3
When a composed goalkeeping performance was needed, Kuszczak put in one of the worst-ever displays, which gave Blackburn confidence that eventually lead to the opening goal.
Fabio – 5
Showed a little bit of inexperience by getting caught too far forward, but Fabio was harshly withdrawn as Ferguson needed more experienced bodies in the Blackburn defensive-third.
Rio Ferdinand – 6
A couple of shaky moments coupled with a some sublime touches, Ferdinand was only ever troubled when Rovers went with the long ball approach.
Nemanja Vidic – 7
Made a couple of crucial interceptions – including one that would have saw Jason Roberts tap into an empty net – but Vidic was
Jonny Evans – 5
Filling it as an emergency left-back, Evans was embarrassingly left twisting and turning on Emerton’s opener, and, unfortunately, he showed his lack of experience bombarding down the left flank.
Antonio Valencia – 6
Not his best game crossing the ball, but Valencia showed his adaptability by being able to fill in at right-back.
Michael Carrick – 7
Rarely did Carrick misplace his pass or give away free-kick, which was half the reason that Blackburn attacked either with the long ball approach or through the wide areas.
Ryan Giggs – 6
Forming a very good understanding with Carrick in the center of the midfield, Giggs played some great balls into the forwards and it was unfortunate that at least one of them was not turned into an assist.
Nani – 6
Nearly got United off to a great start as his header crashed onto the bar, however, Nani’s shooting also got Sir Alex out of his seat as he wasted chances from good positions.
Wayne Rooney – 7 (Man of the Match)
Took the penalty his authority that gave United the point that they needed, but some of Rooney’s passing was out of this world.
Javier Hernandez – 6
His touch let him down on multiple occasions, but it was Hernandez created the penalty with his quickness to never give up on the ball.
Substitutions
Paul Scholes – 6
A couple of typical hard challenges after his introduction, but Scholes’ composure was needed to see out this game comfortably.
Dimitar Berbatov – 5
Brought on for the last 10 minutes of the match, but Berbatov rarely saw the ball as his teammates rolled the ball around the back keeping possession.
Overall – 6
With the team selected, many would have bet the house that Manchester United would have stormed to another crunching win over Blackburn, but nonetheless, it was enough to get them the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League trophy back to where it belongs.
