Redknapp – “Gomes Is Top Class, He Still Has A Big Future Here”
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has assured Heurelho Gomes that he still has a big part to play at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has assured Heurelho Gomes that he still has a big part to play at White Hart Lane.
The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs, with Brad Friedel now considered number one and Carlo Cudicini his back-up.
Redknapp has previously entertained the idea of allowing the Brazilian to leave in January after the ‘keeper admitted he was unhappy at being dropped to third-choice.
However, after making a rare start, the 30-year-old put in an impressive performance to help Spurs to a 1-0 win over Russian side Rubin Kazan on Thursday night and Redknapp insisted that he could still stay at the club beyond January.
“I was pleased for Gomes. He was great,” the Spurs manager said.
“Carlo Cudicini has been playing well and so has Brad but I played the big man tonight and he did well.
“I would like to think that Gomes still has a big future here. But he wants to play more, obviously, and at the moment he is disappointed that Brad has come in, but Brad has done great.
“Gomes is top class, when he is on his game he is a great keeper.”
