Everton vs Man Utd: Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Manchester United start the new season with an away trip to Everton at Goodison Park. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score.
Manchester United start the new season with a tricky tie away to Everton at Goodison Park tonight.
Many point to the sensational 4-4 draw between the two sides at Old Trafford as the turning point in the title race last season, with Everton coming from 2-goals down to salvage a late draw and hand the impetus back to Man City.
Sir Alex Ferguson has gone out and splashed big money on Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa as he looks to wrestle to title back from their City rivals.
Despite Everton being notoriously slow starters, Goodison Park is never an easy place to go and Fergie knows his side will have to be at their best to get off to a winning start.
Team News
Steven Pienaar is expected to start after making his return to Everton permanent in the summer following a successful spell on loan from Spurs during the second half of last season.
Steven Naismith is likely to miss out and will have to make do with a place on the bench after his move from Rangers. Marouane Fellaini and Darron Gibson should both be involved despite missing international games last week, although former United favourite Phil Neville may keep fellow former-Red Gibson out the side.
United have concerns at the back with Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans all expected to miss out through injury. Michael Carrick is therefore likely to be deployed alongside Nemanja Vidic at the back.
Fergie must decide how best to utilise his summer signings with both Van Persie and Kagawa pushing for starts.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
David Moyes side are always difficult to beat and will be buoyed by the 4-4 draw at Old Trafford last season. However, with the firepower available to Fergie we think United might just nick this one. Everton 0-1 Man Utd
