Wenger Confirms He’s Looking To Buy A Striker In January
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s looking to sign a striker in January but insists he hasn’t spoken to Thierry Henry about a potential return.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s looking to sign a striker in January due to Gervinho going to the African Cup of Nations but is yet to decide on whether to bring Thierry Henry back to the club.
With the January transfer window less than six weeks away many fans have been calling for another striker to be brought in to the club. We only really have Olivier Giroud to rely on and Gervinho will be off to the African Cup of Nation in the new year so we could certainly do with some reinforcements up top.
It looks like we might get our wish, as speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of this weekends game against Aston Villa, Wenger has confirmed he’s in the market for a striker this January:
“We are looking maybe at a striker, because Gervinho goes to the African Nations Cup,”
Wenger is quoted as saying to Arsenal.com
Reports in recent days have suggested the boss might try and bring legend Thierry Henry back to the club for a third spell. Henry has been training with the rest of the squad to maintain his fitness during the MLS off-season, but Wenger has insisted he’s yet to speak with the 35-year-old over a loan move.
“I just spoke about that because people asked me,” he said. “I said I don’t rule it out because he’s in good shape but I haven’t made up my mind yet.
“I haven’t spoken to Thierry about it. I just answered a question honestly that I have not completely decided how I will sort it out in my head.”

As I’ve said previously, I’m all for Thierry coming to the club on loan again but we MUST sign a striker on a permanent basis as well if he does. We can’t rely on Giroud for the whole season. Wenger clearly doesn’t trust Chamakh so let’s ship him out in January and sign someone who he will play. Then if Henry comes in as well, great.
