Man Utd vs Sunderland Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Man Utd welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the top. Here’s a preview, team news likely line-ups and predicted score
Manchester United welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
United hold a six point lead over rivals Manchester City after last weekends thrilling 3-2 win at the Etihad Stadium, with Robin van Persie scoring a late free kick to claim the three points.
The Dutchman enjoys an impressive record against the visitors having scored 7 goals in 9 appearances while at former side Arsenal, so he’ll be looking to add to his 14 goal haul in United colours this weekend.
Sunderland arrive at Old Trafford with a terrible record having not won away to United since 1968 and have not scored in the past 5 visits. However, Martin O’Neill’s side head into the game off the back of Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Reading that moved them out of the bottom three so should be full of confidence.
Team News
Manchester United are able to welcome back captain Nemanja Vidic with the defender fully recovered from a knee injury that has kept him out since September. The Serbian is likely to come back in for the injury Jonny Evans, who picked up a hamstring problem last weekend.
Shinji Kagawa is edging closer to fitness and should return to full training on Monday, but Nani and Anderson are still sidelined. Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is available again but David De Gea is expected to retain the No.1 jersey, while Wayne Rooney is likely to start despite suffering from illness during the week.
Martin O’Neill is sweating on the fitness of Adam Johnson, Steven Fletcher and Danny Rose but the trio are likely to be passed fit to play. Defender Phil Bardsley and captain Lee Cattermole remain sidelined with knee ligament injuries.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
This should be a home banker. Sunderland’s record at United is extremely poor and with the firepower at Sir Alex Ferguson’s disposal, they will surely have far too much for the visitors. Man Utd 3-0 Sunderland
