Man Utd vs West Brom Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Manchester United welcome West Brom to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Here is a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score for the game.
Manchester United welcome West Brom to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon looking to tighten their grip at the top of the table.
United extended their lead at the top to seven points on Boxing Day with a thrilling 4-3 win over Newcastle after rivals Man City had slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.
The Red Devils are in superb form having won six of their last seven games but won’t be taking West Brom lightly this weekend, as Steve Clarke’s men have been one of the surprise packages so far this season.
The Baggies are currently in sixth place, level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham, and head in to the game off the back of successive victories over Norwich and QPR. However, Albion have never beaten United in the Premier League so will be keen to change that record to boost their hopes of landing an unlikely European place at the end of the season.
Team News
Sir Alex Ferguson may be able to welcome back Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young for the game after the pair missed Wednesday’s win over the Magpies. Wayne Rooney is definietly out after picking up a knee injury in training earlier in the week and he joins Phil Jones on the sidelines.
Paul Scholes is likely to be given a rest with Nathan Cleverley coming back in while Rafael may get a recall at the expense of Chris Smalling at right back. Shinji Kagawa may be back on the bench after recovering from a knee injury.
West Brom are sweating on the fitness of Jonas Olsson, Goran Popov and Youssouf Mulumbu who all picked up knocks on Boxing Day, but all three are expected to be passed fit. Midfielder Claudio Yacob is definitely out with a hamstring strain.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
West Brom have a very poor record against United and have lost 10 of their last 13 visits to Old Trafford. We can see that run being extended to 11 of the last 14. Man Utd 2-0 WBA
