Premier League leaders Manchester United welcome Norwich City to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Here is a full preview with team news for the big game.
League leaders Manchester United welcome Norwich City to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon looking to move one step closer to regaining the Premier League title.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side go into the game boasting a 12 points advantage over second-placed Manchester City and will be hoping to maintain that gap at the very least this weekend.
However, United would be forgiven for having one eye on Tuesday’s vital Champions League second leg with Real Madrid, with the tie finely poised at 1-1 following the first leg at the Bernabeu.
But Ferguson will be guarding against complacency and ensuring his squad are fully focused on the task at hand, and also looking to avoid another upset after Norwich shocked the Manchester giants with a 1-0 win at Carrow Road back in November.
That was United’s last league defeat and have since gone 15 games unbeaten but they will face Chris Houghton’s side who should be full of confidence having secured a late win over Everton last time out.
Team News
United have been boosted with the news that striker Robin van Persie has been pasted fit for the weekend after recovering from a hip injury that forced him off against QPR last Saturday. However, Fergie is expected to make some changes and rest his key men with Tuesday’s clash in mind, meaning RPV and Michael Carrick should be among the players who could get a rest.
Ryan Giggs is in-line to to make his 1,000th career appearance but fellow veteran Paul Scholes is still out with a knee injury. Phil Jones will also miss the game with an ankle knock and is now racing to be fit to face Real Madrid.
Norwich will continue to be without midfielder Alex Tettey due to a knee injury while forward Kei Kamara is pushing for a start after grabbing the winner against Everton last weekend. Andrew Surman and goalkeeper John Ruddy are both on the sidelines with long-term injuries.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
United may not be at their scintillating best right now but they are grinding out the results and doing just enough to get the job done. We think this will be the case once again this weekend. Man Utd 2-0 Norwich
