Stoke vs Man Utd Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Man Utd travel to the Britannia Stadium on Sunday looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Man City. Here’s a preview with team news for the big game.
Manchester United travel to the Britannia Stadium on Sunday afternoon looking to immediately bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City last week.
The loss at Old Trafford leaves United 12-points ahead of their rivals with just seven games remaining but after last seasons late collapse, Sir Alex Ferguson will be demanding his players respond with a win today to restore their 15-point advantage in the title race.
The hosts on the other hand are desperate for points at the other end of the table with Tony Pulis’ men finding themselves dragged into the relegation dogfight after a run of just one win in 13 league games.
Stoke lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa last time out to leave themselves just three points off the drop zone and Pulis knows his side need to start picking up points quickly to stave off the threat of relegation.
Team News
Stoke are sweating on the fitness of winger Matthew Etherington who is struggling with a back injury. Pulis will give him every chance to prove his fitness and he’s expected to be passed fit to play.
Defender Marc Wilson is also a doubt with a hamstring problem but Glen Whelan could return after training this week following a back injury.
United are without the services of Ashley Young after Ferguson ruled the winger out for two weeks with an ankle injury picked up against City.
Nemanja Vidic is back in training but is unlikely to be risked this weekend but Jonny Evans is back in contention after overcoming a hamstring injury. The defender may come in to start alongside Rio Ferdinand at the back.
Fergie is expected to keep faith with the miss-firing Robin van Persie who has now gone 685 minutes without scoring for United.
Likely Line-ups
Predicted Score
Stoke are really struggling to score of late and have managed just two goals in their last six league games – both from the penalty spot – and amassed a measly 28 goals in total this season. The Potters also have a dreadful record against United, taking just one point in their previous nine games, so I back United to collect all three points here and restore their 15-point advantage over City. Stoke 0-2 Man Utd
