Tottenham welcome defending Premier League champions Manchester City to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon. Here’s the latest Spurs team news for the game.
Tottenham welcome defending Premier League champions Manchester City to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon for a match that could well shape how the two teams seasons end up.
Spurs head into the weekend’s action sitting fifth in the table and facing a fierce battle with London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea for a place in the top-four this season, while City are desperate for all three points to try and put more pressure on run-away league leaders Man Utd.
Ahead of the game, Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has been speaking to the media on Friday and he’s given a team news and injury update with the latest on Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe’s fitness.
Winger Bale has been out since picking up an ankle injury against Basel in the Europa League on April the 4th and AVB has confirmed the Welshman has been training with the squad this week and is confident he’ll be fit to start.
Defoe has also been absent in recent weeks but the striker has trained all week and is back in contention while Lennon is yet to return after suffering a hamstring strain two weeks ago but may return to training on Saturday. Here’s what Villas-Boas is quoted as saying by ESPN.
“Gareth has made good progress from the start of the week to training with the team for the last two days. He has a good chance to play. This is the decision I still have to make. It should be no problem.”
“There has been a recovery from Defoe – he has trained with the team all week,” Villas-Boas added.
“Lennon has been recovering progressively, but he hasn’t trained with the team yet. There is still only one more session to go, so we will see.”
