Manchester City will be in the capital this Sunday to take on Tottenham in a vital encounter for both teams at White Hart Lane.
Spurs head into the weekends action sitting fifth and outside the Champions League qualification places but will be hoping for a positive result over City to maintain their hopes of beating Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton to a top-four finish.
Andre Villas-Boas side haven’t played in almost two weeks after last weekends clash with Chelsea was postponed due to the Blues participation in the FA Cup but the Lillywhites have been in poor form of late after taking just four points from their previous four games.
The visitors on the other hand will be desperate to try and at least delay Manchester United’s title celebration party for another week. United’s lead at the top was cut to 13-points on Wednesday after City beat Wigan 1-0 at the Etihad while United were held to a 2-2 draw at West Ham but with just six games remaining Roberto Mancini’s men know time is running out for them to put up a late fight in their title defence.
Should City lose on Sunday it will give Sir Alex Ferguson’s men the chance to reclaim the title at home to Aston Villa on Monday night, so the City players will be keen to put some pressure on their rivals with all three points on Sunday.
Team News
Tottenham have received a triple injury boost ahead of the game with AVB confirming that Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe are all in contention to play this Sunday.
Bale has missed the last three weeks with an ankle injury but the Spurs boss confirmed he’s back in training and could start against City. Lennon has an outside chance of starting and will be assessed before kick off but Defoe is definitely back in contention after taking part in a full weeks training, although Emmanuel Adebayor may continue up front against his former side.
City are sweating on the fitness of key duo David Silva and Sergio Aguero, with both doubtful for the trip to White Hart Lane with hamstring problems.
Playmaker Silva has been out for two weeks after picking up the injury against Man Utd but he could be back to face Tottenham after taking part in light training. However, it looks increasingly likely that Aguero will miss out after being forced off against Wigan in midweek.
Defender Micah Richards looked rusty against the Latics and is expected to return to the bench but Maicon and Jack Rodwell could be back in contention after overcoming injuries.
Likely Line-ups
