Chelsea Confirm Frank Lampard Has Signed New One-Year Contract Extension
After months of speculation, Chelsea have confirmed on Chelseafc.com that midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new one-year contract extension at the club.
After months of speculation, Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that midfielder Frank Lampard has signed a new one-year contract extension.
The 34-year-old’s current contract was due to expire at the end of the season and he looked set to end his 12-year association with Chelsea after the club failed to open talks over an extension.
However, the midfielder has enjoyed a superb second half to the season that’s seen him become the Blues all-time leading goal-scorer, with a brace against Aston Villa last weekend seeing him surpass Bobby Tambling’s 202 goals.
Fans were desperate to see Lampard stay at Stamford Bridge and it seems his form has persuaded the club to offer him a new deal, and the former West Ham ace penned a new one-year contract on Thursday. After agreeing the new deal, Lampard expressed his delight at finally resolving his future and says it was always his dream to remain at Stamford Bridge. He told ChelseaFC.com:
‘I’m absolutely delighted. Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea. We’ve been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.
‘I want to thank Mr Abramovich for everything he’s done in making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived.
‘The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn’t be happier.’
Lampard joined Chelsea from West Ham in 2001 and has gone on to make over 600 appearances for the club, winning the Champions League, three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and added the Europa League to his trophy cabinet last night with a 2-1 win over Benfica, making him one of the clubs greatest ever players.
