Is Suarez Set for Real Madrid?
Liverpool Striker Luis Suarez has put Real Madrid on red alert by revealing it would be ‘difficult’ to turn down an offer from the Spanish giants this summer.
Liverpool Striker Luis Suarez has put Real Madrid on red alert by revealing that it would be ‘difficult’ to turn down an offer from the Spanish giants, according to the Guardian.
The controversial Uruguayan, who was given a 10 match ban last month for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, has revealed in a shocking radio interview in his native country that he is growing ‘tired’ of media persecution in England and could be prepared to move abroad with Real Madrid ‘difficult’ to turn down.
“I love Liverpool, but if there is a chance of playing somewhere else … I suffered too much as a kid to get where I am to be attacked unfairly by the English press. They haven’t appreciated me as a player, they’ve just judged my attitude.
“I’m happy at Liverpool, I’m happy because of the fans. I made a mistake, I’m human, but [the press] talked about me in ways they shouldn’t have. My family have suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I’m not prepared to continue to put up with the English press.”
“I’ve talked to my agent, there’s nothing concrete. To say no to Madrid would always be difficult and more so with the team they have, I have a contract with Liverpool, but it would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid. There are a lot of rumours in the transfer period, but you never know until firm offers are made.
“I’ve talked to the coach [Rodgers], and he knows what I want. He was a player. Some of the players understand my situation – enough said.” Suarez is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Although the 26-year-old signed a long term contract on Merseyside just last year, the report claims he has a buy-out clause of around £40m and Real Madrid are one of only a few clubs in Europe that could afford him.
On the field, Suarez scored 23 Premier League goals last season and is regarded as one of the league’s best strikers alongside dutch international Robin Van Persie of Manchester United.
The former Nacional and Ajax forward moved to Anfield in January 2010 for a fee believed to be in the region of £23.5m and Liverpool would be reluctant to let him move on without a fight.
However, Liverpool’s lack of Champion’s league football could be another major determining factor in whether or not Suarez does exit this summer with the forward reportedly keen to showcase his talents on the biggest stage.
Despite a promising campaign, the 5-times European Champions once again failed to secure Champions League qualification having finished 7th in this year’s domestic table; a massive 12 points behind 4th-placed Arsenal who clinched the final qualification spot after a dramatic victory over Newcastle on the final day of the season.
Real Madrid are currently favourites to land the services of Suarez, should he decide to leave this summer, and that move can be backed at 4/7. Premier League runners-up Manchester City have also been linked with the Uruguayan and they are currently priced at an outside 20-1 to land his signature.
