Liverpool Transfer News: Rodgers 9-Man Wish-List Revealed
Here we have Brendan Rodgers 9-man summer transfer hit-list as the Liverpool boss tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the top four next season.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Brendan Rodgers 9-man hit-list is revealed.
The Mirror have revealed what they believe to be Brendan Rodgers 9-man hit-list this summer as the Liverpool boss tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the top four.
The Merseysiders finished a disappointing seventh last season but Rodgers is believed to be keen to strengthen his squad this summer and is confident he can push for Champions League qualification if the right players are signed in the coming weeks.
The Northern Irishman has already signed forward Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo for a fee in the region of £7m and the Mirror claim he’s also closing in on the £5m signing of Sevilla winger Luis Alberto and the £20m capture of Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan – who scored 25 goals last season.
Experienced defender Kolo Toure is due to join on a free transfer next month and the report also suggests Liverpool are interested in highly-rated Greece centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos who’s valued at around £12m while a deal for Sporting Lisbon youngster Thiago Llori is understood to be close.
Further reports today are linking striker Luis Suarez with a move away from Liverpool and should the Uruguyan leave Anfield the Mirror suggests Rodgers will make a move for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke while Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema is also believed to be on his radar.
The final position that the newspaper claims Rodgers will strengthen is between the sticks with Simon Mignolet expected to arrive in a £7m deal but if new Sunderland boss Paolo di Canio blocks the move Michel Vorm has been lined up as a potential alternative.
That’s quite a list! Toure and Aspas is a good start but if Rodgers could bring in Papadopoulos and Mkhitaryan and also manage to keep hold of Suarez then Liverpool will have a squad capable of challenging for the top four next season, no doubt about it.
