Chelsea Ready To Fight Man Utd For Lewandowski As Cavani Move Stalls
Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signature of Robert Lewandowski if they fail to land No.1 target Edinson Cavani this summer
With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea eye Robert Lewandowski as Cavani’s alternative.
Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signature of Robert Lewandowski if they fail to land No.1 target Edinson Cavani this summer, according to the Mirror.
The report claims the west Londoners priority is still signing Cavani but the Blues have so far refused to meet Napoli’s £53m asking price and the 26-year-old is also believed to favour a move to Real Madrid.
The Uruguayan hitman is expected to hold talks with Napoli when he return from his duties at the Confederations Cup in Brazil but as Chelsea’s negotiations with the Italian outfit continue to stall, it’s left Jose Mourinho looking for alternatives and it appears he’s now ready to turn his attention to Lewandowski.
The Polish international has just 12 months left on his contract and with Borussia Dortmund refusing to sell another prized asset to domestic rivals Bayern Munich, a move to the Premier League has been touted.
The Mirror claim Manchester United are keen on luring him to England but they may now face competition from Chelsea with the Blues confident they can persuade Dortmund to cash-in this summer for a fee in the region of £25m, instead of losing their star man for nothing in 12 months time.
The newspaper suggests Chelsea are ready to offer Lewandowski wages of £170,000-a-week to come to Stamford Bridge and they are confident they can fight off interest from United to secure his signature – if Dortmund are prepared to do business.
With a new big-money striker expected to arrive at the Bridge this summer and the impressive Romelu Lukaku set to be given a chance to impress, Demba Ba and possibly Fernando Torres could be on the way out to make room for Mourinho’s new-look strike-force.
