According to goal.com, Karim Benzema is Redknapp’s new transfer target and a deal seems possible given that the Frenchman’s situation at Bernabeu is a little complicated.
Spurs need an in-form world class striker to aid the team’s challenge to finish again in the top four and are keeping a close eye on Benzema’s situation, as recent reports in Spain indicate that the ex-Lyon striker has an icy relationship with “The Special One”.
Redknapp’s efforts to buy a big name during the summer were in vain, as Spurs repeatedly failed to sign Huntelaar, Diego Forlan or Luis Fabiano.
Spurs could use Rafael Van der Vaart’s words in order to convince Benzema that White Hart Lane is suited for him, as the Dutch player enjoyed a great start at the club.
Redknapp has up to £25m to spend on a goal scorer, but could face a fierce competition from European giants like Manchester United and Juventus.
Spurs and Real Madrid seem to have a good relationship as Spurs made a bargain in the summer buying Van der Vaart for £8m. Yet, no contact has been made regarding Benzema. It would be interesting to see Mourinho’s reaction, as he could push for Gareth Bale to come to Bernabeu, in a part-exchange deal.
One issue would be that Spurs already have in their ranks the likes of Jermain Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Crouch and Robbie Keane and if Benzema joins the team, or any other high-profile striker in that matter, one current striker will have to go. The question is who?
Dear readers, have your say? Do you want Benzema at White Hart Lane? If you do, who should leave?
