Manchester United entertain Everton at Old Trafford tonight looking to close in on the top four of the Premier League.
United head into the midweek fixtures sitting in eighth place in the table following a 2-2 draw with Tottenham at the weekend, but the champions could end up back inside the top four with a win over the Toffees if other results go their way.
The game will see David Moyes comes up against Everton for the first time since leaving Goodison Park in the summer, and the Scot is expected a mixed reception from his old clubs supporters.
Sunday’s draw at White Hart Lane has left United trailing leaders Arsenal by nine points so Moyes will be hoping to capatalise on two home games in the space of four days to close the gap and remain in the title race.
Roberto Martinez brings his Everton side to Old Trafford in excellent form and a 4-0 win over Stoke on Saturday left them sitting fifth in the table – two points above United – having lost just once all season.
However, while the Merseysiders should be in confident mood, they have a dreadful record away to United with their last victory at the Theater of Dreams coming way back in 1992.
Team News
Man Utd will have to make-do without the services of Phil Jones after he picked up his fifth booking of the season on Sunday. With Michael Carrick still nursing an Achilles injury, Marouane Fellaini could face former club for the first time since leaving Goodison in the summer.
Moyes confirmed that Robin van Persie has a chance of returning after missing the last three games with a groin problem.
Martinez has no fresh injury concerns to deal with. Bryan Oviedo was hugely impressive at left-back at the weekend and will once again continue to deputise for the injured Leighton Baines.
On-loan Barcelona attacker Gerard Deulofeu was also in good form on Saturday and is pushing to start ahead of Kevin Mirallas.
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Wayne Rooney: The England ace was in excellent form last time out against Spurs, scoring both goals for United, and we can see him being the man to watch again in this game.
Predicted Score
Man Utd 1-0 Everton: While United may not be back to their very best just yet, we can see them just edging this one to continue their superb record at home against Everton.
