Manchester United have been dealt a huge injury blow with manager David Moyes confirming that striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out for a month with a thigh strain.
The Dutchman has only recently returned to action after being sidelined for several weeks with a niggling groin strain, but it seems he’s now set for another spell on the treatment table.
Moyes has been speaking to the media this afternoon ahead of this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa, and the Scot confirmed the bad news that RVP injured his thigh while taking the corner that led to Phil Jones’ winner against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.
“Robin van Persie is out for a month. He picked up a thigh strain in taking a corner kick which led to the goal.” Moyes is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
United head into the weekend action sitting ninth in the Premier League table following back-to-back 1-0 league defeats to Everton and Newcastle, so losing their key striker is going to be a sickening blow just when Moyes is hoping to get their season back on track.
