Manchester United entertain Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on New Years Day with both sides looking to close in on the top four.
United have recovered from a difficult start under David Moyes with six wins on the bounce in all competitions getting their season back on track.
A 1-0 win away at Norwich on Saturday moved the Red Devils up to sixth and just three points off fourth-placed Everton, so Moyes will be desperate to start 2014 on a positive not and keep up the momentum with a win over Spurs.
However, Tim Sherwood has guided Tottenham to seven points from nine after being installed as Andre Villas-Boas’ replacement and the north Londoners are level on points with the champions following a 3-0 win over Stoke at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Spurs also won this fixture last season while the reverse clash at White Hart Lane earlier in the season saw the two sides play-out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Team News
Manchester United are expected to welcome back Wayne Rooney after the striker missed the win at Carrow Road with a minor groin problem.
Robin van Persie is back in training after recovering from a thigh injury but is unlikely to start so Danny Welbeck will continue to lead to line with Rooney in support.
Antonio Valencia is expected to be recalled after serving a one-match ban while Adnan Januzaj could get a run-out, but Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Phil Jones and Rafael all remain sidelined.
Tottenham have suffered an injury blow ahead of the game with the news that Paulinho will miss the next four weeks with an ankle injury.
The Brazilian joins Andros Townsend, Sandro, Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul on the sidelines. However, Kyle Walker is available again having served a one-match ban and should take his place at right-back.
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Wayne Rooney: The striker was sorely missed at the weekend after showing his excellent form in recent weeks, so he’ll be the one Spurs will have to keep quiet if they want to get something from the game.
Predicted Score
Man Utd 2-1 Tottenham: The champions are starting to find their feet under Moyes and we can see Tottenham’s attacking 4-4-2 formation coming unstuck at Old Trafford.
