Manchester United take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light tonight in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi final.
David Moyes is under increasing pressure following United’s shock FA Cup defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford on Sunday, so the Scot is expected to name his strongest side for this evening’s game.
Wayne Rooney is in-line to return after missing the weekend defeat with a minor knock, while a number of other first team regulars are expected to be recalled after being rested against the Swans.
David De Gea will return in goal in place of Anders Lindegaard while Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra will come back into the defence with Rio Ferdinand and Alexander Buttner dropping out.
Michael Carrick is also likely to start in midfield alongside Tom Cleverley while Adnan Januzaj should get a run-out on the left with Antonio Valencia on the right of midfield. Danny Welbeck should continue in attack, although Javier Hernandez may be hoping to keep his place after scoring on Sunday.
Moyes still has several players on the sidelines. Robin Van Persie is still working his way back to full fitness from a thigh strain while Phil Jones (knee), Marouane Fellaini (wrist), Rafael (hamstring), Ashley Young (shoulder) and Nani (hamstring) are also out through injury.
Fabio is suspended after being sent off against Swansea and Rio Ferdinand is a doubt after picking up a knock in the FA Cup clash.
Here is the team we think Moyes will go with:
