Manchester United have confirmed that striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out for four to six weeks after suffering a sprained knee in midweek.
The Dutchman scored a hat-trick against Olympiakos before being stretchered off after taking a kick to the back of his knee during the closing minutes of Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League win at Old Trafford.
Boss David Moyes confirmed at his press conference earlier today that the 30-year-old was set to undergo further scans on the injury after initial tests proved inconclusive.
However, it seems the scans have now revealed the true extent of the injury with the club confirming that the striker is now set to miss between four to six weeks after sustaining a sprained knee.
It will obviously come as a huge blow to the defending champions as they look to keep alive their slim hope of finishing in the top four in the Premier League, while they also have a huge double header against Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of the Champions League coming up after being paired with the reigning champions in Friday’s draw.
