Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has posted a video on his official Facebook page of him training in the gym as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury.
The Dutchman has been on the sidelines since being stretchered off during the final minutes of United’s 3-0 win over Olympiakos in the last 16 of the Champions League back in mid-March. The 30-year-old was initially ruled out for up to six weeks and there were fears he might not play again this season.
However, van Persie now appears to be closing in on a comeback after posting a video of him performing squats, running on a trampoline and sprinting across the gym as he continues his rehabilitation back in Holland.
The video suggests that the Dutchman is now stepping up his recovery and could be ready to return to the UK soon to take part in training with the rest of the United squad, and it looks likely he’ll be back in action before the end of the season.
Obviously the news will come as a welcome boost to David Moyes and United as they try to end whats been a disappointing season on a high note, but it will also be a relief for Holland boss Louis van Gaal ahead of this summers World Cup finals in Brazil.
RVP was spotted in the crowd along with van Gaal over the weekend as the pair watched PSV Eindhoven take on his former side Feyenoord, and he’s expected to lead the line for his country this summer as long as he can prove his fitness in time.
