Bundesliga Midfielder Wants Arsenal Move As Wenger Prepares €26m Bid
Arsenal are set to table a €26million bid for Lars Bender with the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder understood to be keen on making the move to north London.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of a bid for Lars Bender.
Arsenal are set to table a €26m bid for Lars Bender with the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder understood to be keen on making the move to north London, according to reports today.
We were strongly linked with a move for Bender last summer and after scouting him extensively for the best part of a year, reports at the time said we had a £19m offer rejected with Leverkusen insistent they wouldn’t be selling at any price.
However, we have continued to keep an eye on his progress and it seems like Arsene Wenger is ready to renew his interest this summer as he looks to bring in a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta with the Metro claiming that we will submit a €26m (£21m) bid by the end of next week.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to persuade Leverkusen to cash in this time around but the newspaper suggests that despite signing a new contract in October, Bender wants to make the move to the Emirates so that could put some pressure on the Bundesliga outfit.
The 25-year-old was having a decent season last year before injury cut-short his season and saw him miss this summers World Cup, but he’s on the road to recovery and will be fit to return to pre-season training next month.
Hopefully that will be in London with Arsenal as Bender would be an excellent addition to the squad and he’d certainly be able to fill the boots of Arteta. The Spaniard has been a superb professional for us since signing from Everton but there’s no denying his legs are gone and his lack of pace was exposed in the middle of the park last season.

Let’s see if this supposed bid comes about but I hope we’re able to lure him to England this summer as an athletic defensive midfielder like Bender would make a huge difference next season.
