Sanchez To Face Spurs? Wenger Confirms He’ll Assess Chilean Today

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has offered hope that Alexis Sanchez could yet face Tottenham tomorrow just 24 hours after ruling him out of the game.
The Gunners supremo told Arsenal.com on Thursday that Sanchez was ‘just short’ of fitness and that the hamstring injury that saw him miss last weekends win over Aston Villa would also see him sit out of Saturday’s clash with Spurs.
However, speaking to the press at his pre-match press conference this morning, Wenger has now revealed that Sanchez hasn’t given up hope of making the trip to White Hart Lane and will train today to try and prove his fitness.
The French boss will also seek advice from the clubs medical team before making a final assessment after training on Friday afternoon. Wenger told reporters:
“I don’t know yet, I need medical advice on that, and I need as well to see what he can do in training,” he said.
“He wants to play, of course, he’s very keen, he feels he can defy the medical people because he is so keen to play that he thinks he can get over strains.”
So it seems Sanchez hasn’t been completely ruled out of the Tottenham game just yet but I don’t think Arsenal will take any risks with the attacker, so unless he shows he’s 100% fit in training today, I don’t see him starting the game tomorrow.
However, there is still a possibility that Wenger may take Sanchez and put him on the bench just in case they need a bit of magic in the second half, but they’ll be praying that if he does get on the pitch, the players desire to play doesn’t result in his aggravating the injury and making it worse.
Wenger also confirmed once again that Danny Welbeck will be back in the squad tomorrow after recovering from a thigh injury while Jack Wilshere is set to return to full training next week after ankle surgery.
