Manchester United will look to continue their excellent recent form when they take on Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

United have won their last two Premier League games against Liverpool and Southampton to move them up to second in the table, just two points behind leaders Man City.

Louis van Gaal’s men also cruised to a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Capital One Cup in midweek so the United boss will be hoping to extend their winning streak tomorrow, even if it means inflicting more misery on an old friend.

van Gaal and Dick Advocaat have known each other a long time but the Sunderland coach will get no favours from his Dutch compatriot this weekend as he brings his side to Old Trafford sitting bottom of the division.

The Black Cats are yet to win their first game of the season and have collected just two points from their six games so far, so Advocaat will be praying he can get one over his pal and pull off a shock tomorrow.

Marcos Rojo has been ruled out for the hosts after picking up a knock in midweek so he joins Luke Shaw on the sidelines as the full-back begins the long road to recovery following surgery on a broken leg.

It means Ashley Young is likely to once again deputise at left-back after impressing against Ipswich in midweek.

Paddy McNair is also missing after suffering an injury last time out while Phil Jones is likely to be among the subs after recovering from a bout of thrombosis.

Anthony Martial is set to be recalled to the starting eleven after being rested in midweek, while Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick could also get recalls in midfield.

Sunderland defender Younes Kaboul returns from suspension following his dismissal against at Bournemouth last weekend.

Jack Rodwell is a slight doubt with an ankle injury while Jermaine Defoe is hoping to prove his fitness after a hamstring problem.
