Liverpool Star Steps Up Injury Return Ahead Of Man City Clash

Daniel Sturridge could put himself in contention to face Manchester City next weekend after stepping up his recovery from a hip injury, according to the Mirror.
Sturridge has seen his career blighted by various injury problems and he was once again sidelined after picking up a hip injury in the lead up to Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in mid-October.
The striker has missed the last seven games in all competitions and is yet to play under new boss Jurgen Klopp as he’s slowly working his way back to fitness, but it looks as though he is now closing in on his latest comeback.
The Mirror claim that Sturridge has been doing running and kicking sessions with the clubs physios but is now ready to reintegrate himself in to the main squad again and will train at Melwood with those who’ve been left behind during the international break.
If all goes to plan and Sturridge is able to train fully all next week, the striker could put himself in the frame to make his return to the squad for the trip to Manchester City on Saturday 21st.
Klopp has always been cautious not to put a strict time-frame on Sturridge’s return and I’m sure he’ll not rush him back too soon so he’s highly unlikely to start if he does travel to the Etihad next weekend, but he could feature from the bench.
The news will come as a major boost to Liverpool as they’ve certainly missed Sturridge with the Merseysiders managing just 8 goals in the seven games that he’s missed in recent weeks – and three of those came in the win at Chelsea.
Liverpool have suffered badly from injuries this season and Mamadou Sakho became the latest player to find himself on the sidelines after being ruled out for 6-8 weeks with a knee injury, so Klopp will be delighted that Sturridge is on the verge of making himself available again.
