Chelsea get back to Premier League action with a visit to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, boss Jose Mourinho has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and has given Chelseafc.com a team news and injury update.
Unfortunately the Portuguese coach revealed a double injury blow with skipper John Terry and midfielder Ramires both doubts for the trip to North London.
Terry was carried off late on during Chelsea’s Champions League win at Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday night after suffering an ankle injury during the closing stages of the match.
Ramires on the other hand failed to make the squad for the game after picking up a muscle injury while the players trained on the pitch on Monday afternoon.
Neither player was able to take part in training today and Mourinho has admitted there is only a ‘little hope’ that they’ll be in contention for the Tottenham match this weekend.
The Chelsea boss also confirmed that Radamel Falcao remains out through injury but Thibaut Courtois is back in full training and edging closer to making his comeback – although he won’t be available for the Spurs game on Sunday.
Mourinho told the clubs website:
‘I don’t know about John,’
‘I don’t want to say that it is impossible he plays because maybe he plays and people will say that I was hiding it and I am not hiding. Today he didn’t train but we have a little hope that it is possible.
‘ Ramires is the same situation as John, I don’t know, let’s wait and see. Falcao is still in recovery [from injury] and Courtois is training with the team but not playing Sunday. He is making good progress.’
It would be a major blow for the defending Premier League champions if Terry is ruled out on Sunday but Kurt Zouma is expected to partner Gary Cahill at the heart of defence if the captain fails to make it.
Chelsea head into the weekend action sitting 15th in the table after a disastrous start to the season but Mourinho will be hoping to build on last weeks win over Norwich by picking up a positive result at in-form Tottenham.
