Christian Eriksen scored late on to secure Tottenham Hotspur a priceless 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihas Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After a goalless first half, the visitors opened the scoring in controversial circumstances shortly after half-time when Raheem Sterling was adjudged to have handled Danny Rose’s cross just inside the area.
City protested but referee Mark Clattenburg awarded the spot kick and Harry Kane stepped up to cooly slot home for 0-1 in the 53rd minute.
City got themselves back on level terms in the 74th minute when substitute Iheanacho made it 1-1 after converting Gael Clichy’s cross in emphatic fashion.
However, Spurs won it when Erik Lamela fed Eriksen with a precise through-ball in the 83rd minute and the Danish attacker kept his head to slot past Joe Hart for 1-2.
City couldn’t find another equaliser so Tottenham head back to North London with a vital win that sees them regain second spot from Arsenal and move to within two points of leaders Leicester.
