Man Utd take on Benfica in the Champions League this evening. Here is our preview with team news, line-ups, prediction and betting
Manchester United will be looking book their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League when they take on Benfica at Old Trafford this evening.
United sit top of Group A with a maximum 9 points from their 3 games so far having registered victories over FC Basel and CSKA Moscow before coming away with a 1-0 win from Portugal earlier this month.
It means the Red Devils can secure safe passage to the knockout stages with a win tonight as long as CSKA fail to beat Basel in Switzerland in tonight’s other group game.
Jose Mourinho will be confident of doing their bit as United have been in great form this season and come in to the game off the back of a 1-0 win over Tottenham that saw them keep pace with Man City in the Premier League table.
Team news
United have no fresh injury worries to contend with as Eric Bailly and Phil Jones both came through the Tottenham game unscathed after recently recovering from injuries.
Paul Pogba is still working his way back to full fitness from a hamstring injury while Marouane Fellaini is still sidelined by a knee problem that he picked up earlier this month.
Michael Carrick is also still out so he remains on the treatment table along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Marcos Rojo is due back after the upcoming international break but this game comes too soon.
Mourinho is likely to freshen things up with Sunday’s Chelsea game in mind so Victor Lindelof, Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial are pushing for recalls.
As for Benfica, they’ll be without the suspended Luisao and Andre Almeida while Jardel is also out injured.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Man Utd 3-0 Benfica: The Reds have an excellent record against Benfica having only lost one of their 10 meetings with the Portuguese outfit while United are unbeaten in their last 19 European games at Old Trafford. The hosts didn’t offer too much in the reverse fixture so I don’t see this being too difficult a game for United.
