Tottenham Team News: Poch Reveals Kane Injury Blow + Moura Set For Full Debut
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Harry Kane picked up an ankle injury in midweek but Lucas Moura could make his Tottenham debut on Sunday
Tottenham will be looking to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup when they take on Rochdale at Spotland Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s provided reporters with the latest team and injury news.
The Spurs boss has revealed that Harry Kane is a doubt for the match after twisting his ankle during the 2-2 draw with Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Tottenham will assess their top scorer on Saturday to see if he’ll be able to start or feature from the bench but Pochettino isn’t worried the injury is anything serious.
We could see Lucas Moura make his full debut this weekend as Pochettino has hinted he’ll hand the Brazilian winger his first start since making the move from Paris Saint-Germain last month.
Moura came off the bench during the closing minutes of the 2-2 draw in Turin on Tuesday but the winger is set to make his full debut this weekend after working on his fitness over the past two weeks.
Pochettino also confirmed that Fernando Llorente will be recalled against Rochdale and the striker will be desperate to get himself on the score-sheet having only netted twice so far this season.
The Spurs boss told Football London reporters:
On if Moura will start
Yes, we’re thinking of maybe giving him the possibility to start the game. We’re thinking, it’s in our head. He’s working very hard, we’re pushing him. Yes, we need to assess him tomorrow and see how we can do. But we are so happy with him and the way that he is working. Maybe he has the possibility. On if Llorente will start
Yes I think it will be important for him, if he has the chance to play on Sunday. Harry after the game, he suffered some knocks and of course it’s one of the possibilities to start with Fernando and if he’s going to play, it’s another possibility to show his quality and of course have more luck than in his last game.More on Kane
He twisted his ankle, he received some knocks. We need to assess tomorrow if he’s fit. Maybe he has the possibility to start, if not 100 per cent and there’s not the possibility to play 90 minutes, then to be on the bench, or if we see that he’s not capable of half an hour or 20 minutes then to stay here like with all the players who we did the same. We need to assess him tomorrow to see if he’s possible for Sunday. No, no, no. We are not worried. Of course the effort that he made in the last few weeks was amazing and of course we need to care, no?
Pochettino is expected to make plenty of changes to his starting eleven on Sunday following their superb comeback against Juventus but they’ll still be confident of seeing-off Rochdale to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup.
