Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Confident Key Man Will Be Fit To Face Chelsea
Jose Mourinho has ruled Romelu Lukaku out of Friday’s trip to Brighton but he’s confident the striker will be fit to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final
Jose Mourinho has ruled Romelu Lukaku out of Friday’s trip to Brighton but he’s confident the striker will be fit to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final later this month.
Lukaku was forced off during United’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after being on the receiving end of a strong challenge from debutante Kostantinos Mavropanos.
The signs didn’t look good when Lukaku limped off to be replaced by Marcus Rashford early in the second half and Mourinho admitted after the game the injury was a concern.
The Belgian international has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s clash with Brighton at the Amex Stadium and Lukaku confirmed on social media that he’s in Belgium undergoing intense treatment on his ankle injury.
United are waiting on scan results to know the full extent of the problem, however, Mourinho says the signs are positive that his 27-goal top scorer will be back in time to face former club Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on May 19th.
When asked for an update on Lukaku at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Mourinho told ManUtd.com:
“I don’t know. I just know that, of course, [he is] not [available] tomorrow. Apart from that, we need to wait for more scans, more time, but not [available] tomorrow.”
“I hope so [Lukaku will face Chelsea]. It looks positive, yeah.”

Obviously it’s a blow to United that Lukaku will miss the Brighton game and could also be ruled out of the final league matches against West Ham and Watford.
However, they are guaranteed a top four finish and the only game that really matters now if the FA Cup final so Mourinho will be relieved that he’s on course to facing Chelsea later this month.
The only other injury absentee for United tomorrow is Sergio Romero as the goalkeeper is still working his way back to fitness following a knee injury that he sustained on international in March.
