Manchester United have been handed a quadruple injury boost as Jose Mourinho prepares to welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford on Monday night
Manchester United have been handed a quadruple injury boost as Jose Mourinho prepares to welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford on Monday night, according to the Mirror.
Nemanja Matic has missed United’s opening two Premier League games after undergoing abdominal surgery in the United States a month ago after suffering the injury while away with the Serbian national team at the World Cup finals.
Right-back Antonio Valencia has also sat out the games against Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion with a calf injury that forced him to fly back early from United’s pre-season tour of the US.
However, the duo are closing-in on their returns to action as the Mirror claim Matic and Valencia are both back in full training and pushing for recalls against Tottenham on Monday night.
The news will come as a huge boost to Mourinho as he’s under pressure following the shock 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Sunday and the Manchester giants have certainly missed Valencia and Matic so far this campaign.
Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young have filled-in at right-back in the absence of Valencia while youngster Andreas Pereira has started both league games so far in place of Matic but the experienced duo could return against Spurs.
There is further positive news for United on the injury front as Marcos Rojo is also edging closer to his comeback. The defender has been nursing an injury since the World Cup but he took to Instagram to say “not long now” in reference to his return to action.
Mourinho’s options as the back will be further boosted by the return to fitness of Diogo Dalot. The 19-year-old joined Man Utd this summer carrying a knee injury from last season but he’s been stepping up his rehabilitation in recent weeks and the full-back also took to social media yesterday to suggest he’ll be ‘back soon’.
However, United could be without one key player for the visit of Tottenham on Monday night as Alexis Sanchez missed the Brighton game with an unspecified injury that he sustained in training and the Mirror claim he’s unlikely to recover in time to face Spurs.
