Man Utd vs Valencia Preview | Latest Team News | Expected Line-Ups | Prediction
Man Utd take on Valencia in the Champions League this evening. Here is a preview with the latest team news, line-ups and prediction
Manchester United will be desperate to get their season back on track following a turbulent week when they take on Valencia in the group stages of the Champions League this evening.
Jose Mourinho is under increasing pressure following a turbulent week that started with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Wolves before they crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the third round stage after losing a penalty shoot-out to Derby County.
Things went from bad to worse after United slumped to a 3-1 defeat at West Ham on Saturday to leave them sitting nine points off top of the table Manchester City following their worst start to a league season in 29 years.
However, while things haven’t gone to plan domestically, United did ease to a routine 3-0 victory over Young Boys in their Champions League Group H opener so Mourinho will be desperate to ease the pressure with another win tonight.
United will be up against a Valencia side who have also endured a disappointing start to their season as Saturday’s win over Real Sociedad was their first victory of the campaign and they lost 2-0 at home to Juventus in their Group H opener.
Team news
Man Utd will continue to be without Jesse Lingard as the midfielder is nursing a groin injury while Ashley Young has been ruled out of the game having picked up a knock against West Ham at the weekend.
Ander Herrera is also unavailable so he joins Marcos Rojo on the sidelines with the defender still working his way back from a long-term injury.
Mourinho could freshen things up with the likes of Antonio Valencia, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez pushing for recalls while Paul Pogba is expected to keep his place despite reports suggesting he’s at odds with the manager.
Valencia could welcome Jose Gaya back in to the team after he missed the weekend action but Santi Mina and Ferran Torres remain absentees.
Expected line-ups
Valencia XI: Neto; Vezo, Gabriel, Diakhaby, Gaya; Soler, Parejo, Kondogbia, Guedes; Gameiro, Batshuayi
Predicted Score
Man Utd 2-0 Valencia: United are in poor form right now but they are still favourites to collect all three points this evening. Some of the players don’t look like they are playing for Mourinho any more but they will still be under pressure to perform on a big Champions League night in front of the Old Trafford crowd. Valencia have been dismal so far this campaign and I think even an out of form United side will have too much for them.
