Man Utd Team News: Mourinho Hints At Injury Boost But Trio Miss Newcastle Clash
Jose Mourinho has hinted at an injury boost but three other players will miss Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
Manchester United will be desperate to get their season back on track following a turbulent week when they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and the United boss has offered a team news and injury update ahead of the game with the latest on Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera.
Lingard has missed United’s last two games against West Ham and Valencia due to a groin injury and the England international will continue on the sidelines for the visit of Newcastle this weekend.
Herrera was ruled out of the 0-0 Champions League draw with Valencia in midweek due to a knock and Mourinho has confirmed the Spaniard isn’t ready to return on Saturday afternoon.
Rojo is yet to feature for the United first team this season due to a niggling knee injury that he initially suffered at the World Cup and he is yet to fully recover after aggravating the issue while playing for the U23’s last month.
However, there was some positive news as Mourinho confirmed United suffered no fresh injury concerns against Valencia while Young may return to the squad tomorrow after missing the Valencia game on Tuesday with a minor knock.
Mourinho told ManUtd.com:
“No, it’s exactly the same [squad]. No new injuries and the players who were injured [are still out] with the possibility of Ashley Young coming back to the squad but Ashley was really a minor situation.”
United head in to the weekend action off the back of a poor run of form that’s seen them fail to win any of their last four matches in all competitions and they sit 10th in the Premier League table so Mourinho is under huge pressure to get back to winning ways against Newcastle.
