Man Utd squad revealed: 10 youngsters could make debut vs Astana
Manchester United have taken an inexperienced squad with them for their Europa League group stage clash with Astana on Thursday night
Manchester United have taken an inexperienced squad with them for their Europa League group stage clash with Astana on Thursday night, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United sit top of Group L – two points clear of AZ Alkmaar and six clear of Partizan with a far superior goal difference – so they’ve already secured their place in the knockout stages of the competition.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to leave his first team squad back in Manchester to rest and prepare ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Instead, the United boss has called-up his youngsters to make the long-haul trip to Kazakhstan with as many as 10 players potentially making their first team debuts against Astana on Thursday night.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Max Taylor has been included in the travelling United squad just over 12 months after undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer so he’ll be desperate to make his debut on Thursday.
The news outlet says Largie Ramazani, Ethan Laird, Teden Mengi, DiShon Bernard, Ethan Galbraith, Arnau Puigmal, Matej Kovar and D’Mani Bughail-Mellor have also made the trip to Kazakhstan this afternoon.
Dylan Levitt has been in fine form for the Man Utd youth team so the 18-year-old has been rewarded with a call-up to the first team squad having also broken into Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad this year.
Mason Greenwood has been involved in the first team this season and he’s expected to start in Astana on Thursday night while James Garner, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes should also be involved after being included in the squad.
The only notable senior players to be included in the travelling party are Jesse Lingard, Axel Tuanzebe and Luke Shaw. Lingard needs game-time to return to his best form having endured a stop-start season while Tuanzebe and Shaw are set to make their comebacks after recently recovering from injuries.
Here is the Man Utd squad that flew out to Kazakhstan as per the M.E.N:
Lee Grant, Matej Kovar, Max Taylor, Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe, Dylan Levitt, Teden Mengi, DiShon Bernard, Largie Ramazani, Ethan Laird, Ethan Galbraith, Arnau Puigmal, D’Mani Bughail-Mellor, James Garner, Jesse Lingard, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes, Mason Greenwood.
