Who will take home the 2013/14 Premier League Golden Boot?
The new 2013/14 Premier League campaign is now firmly under way and all the usual suspects are already finding their feet at the top of the table.
With all of the changes that have been going on – three of the four teams that make up the traditional ‘big four’ have new managers – players are going to be trying harder than ever to impress their gaffer.
This is particularly the case for strikers, who will be tasked to grab the goals that help secure their club three points and fly towards the top of the league.
Here are three proven goal scorers, who you would be wise to tip as grabbing that fabled Golden Boot trophy when May 2014 rolls round:
Robin Van Persie
Where better to start our trio of talented strikers than with the winner of the 2012/13 Premier League Golden Boot award – Robin Van Persie?
The Dutchman was a force to be reckoned with during final two seasons at Arsenal, but questions were asked if he could repeat the achievements when playing for Premier League giants Manchester United last season.
All doubts were soon quashed though, when Van Persie netted 26 goals and played a vital part in giving Sir Alex Ferguson a worthy send-off with yet another Premier League title. He’s already up and running this season, scoring two in an opening day win over Swansea.
Wayne Rooney
After nine years at Manchester United, in which he has scored 141 goals in 278 appearances, the future of Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford is in serious doubt.
Whether he chooses to stick with the Red Devils as they go into the unknown – with David Moyes at the helm – or jump ship by going to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, as has long been speculated, there is no doubting that Rooney will be looking to impress his new boss with a huge tally of goals to his name in the months ahead.
Luis Suarez
It doesn’t matter if Luis Suarez stays at Liverpool or completes a transfer to Arsenal, the controversial Uruguay international faces an uphill challenge if he is going to claim the 2013/14 Premier League Golden Boot.
After all, the player is going to be on the sidelines for the first six games of the new Premier League campaign, as he completes his ten-match ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic back in April.
Don’t forget though, that this is the same player who scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season to finish second in the race for the most recent Golden Boot trophy, despite missing the final four games of the campaign due to that infamous biting incident, so he can’t be discounted due to his obvious talent.
