Man Utd Team News Latest: Moyes Gives Update On Van Persie, Young & More
David Moyes has given a team news and injury update ahead of Man Utd’s FA Cup clash against Swansea including the latest on Robin van Persie and Ashley Young
Manchester United entertain Swansea City at Old Trafford on Sunday for their FA Cup third round clash.
Ahead of the game, David Moyes has been speaking at his pre-match press conference today and gave ManUtd.com a team news and injury update including the latest on Robin van Persie and Ashley Young.
The United boss revealed that Young has been ruled out with a shoulder injury that he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day when goalkeeper Hugo Lloris controversially brought him down in the dying minutes.
Moyes was furious that a penalty wasn’t awarded and it seems Young’s injury has rubbed further salt into the wound, although it’s not yet clear how long the problem will keep the winger on the sidelines.
Striker Wayne Rooney is also a doubt after aggravating a groin injury against Spurs while Nani, Phil Jones and Rafael all missed the New Year’s Day defeat and although Moyes said he will assess all the players fitness ahead of the Swans clash, the trio are likely to continue to be on the sidelines.
Robin van Persie hasn’t featured in almost a month due to a thigh injury and Moyes confirmed the Dutchman is edging his way back to fitness. He told the clubs official website:
“We’ve got a few injuries and one is [from] the challenge the keeper made on Ashley Young, which is going to keep him out for a time. It’s a shoulder injury and we’re not sure exactly how long he’s going to be out yet,”
“We’ve got some other injuries as well that we’ll just need to look out and see how they are over the next few days.”
“Robin’s coming on but we’ll let you know when he’s ready.”
Moyes also confirmed that he will rotate his squad ahead of Tuesday’s Capital One Cup semi-final against Sunderland:
“We definitely will [rotate players] because of the two games,” the boss said.
“It’s the same for both clubs so there can’t many any complaints but I think it’s not right to be asking footballers to play on Sunday and then Tuesday. They did it over Christmas and I totally understand that and the reasons why. It’s a bit harder to accept at such short notice here.
