Manchester United thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon to hand then a morale-boosting win ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Bayern Munich.
Juan Mata opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick just before half-time and the Spaniard made it 2-0 shortly after the break when he was on hand to cooly slot home from an Adnan Januzaj cross.
Javier Hernandez then swept home a third in the 64th minute before Januzaj completed the rout with a neat finish after being found by a lovely back-heel from Mata.
The win sees United move above Tottenham into sixth and sets them up well for the crucial Champions League game on Wednesday.
