Manchester United moved up to third in the table after beating Southampton 2-1 at St Marys this evening thanks to a double from Robin van Persie.
United opened the scoring early on when van Persie latched onto a backpass from Jose Fonte to cooly tuck home past Fraser Forster for 0-1.
The hosts levelled things up midway through the first half when Graziano Pelle was on hand to fire high into the roof of the net from 8 yards out.
However, van Persie won it for the Red Devils as he poked home a Wayne Rooney free-kick through the legs of Forster in the 70th minute to sent the visiting fans wild.
Southampton pushed for an equaliser but United held on to claim a huge three points which sees them leap into third place in the Premier League table.
